The Green Sea Turtles (honu in the Hawaiian language) are a protected species. These gentle giants remind us that strength and grace can coexist in one body.

Plumeria are one of the traditional fragrant blossoms found in lei. The trees are grown in most Hawaiian yards.

Lei are worn for festivities of all kinds. They are often gifted when welcoming family and friends to the islands, and are also used when celebrating the life of a loved one who has passed. In this instance the lei are paddled out to a favorite ocean spot and left to float freely, just as the soul of the one lost to us continues to float throughout lives.

This painting began with a simple idea of combining our beloved Honu with the plumeria, a symbol of aloha (love). May it always bring fond memories to you and return you to our islands.
