Green Sea Turtles (honu in Hawai`i) have been protected in the US since 1978. Because of this protection, they no longer fear people, and are often seen in our waters and basking on our beaches. This isn’t true in all South Pacific islands.

We often see Honu in the islands, although Mermaid sightings are very rare. That’s why it’s fun to imagine the mermaids of the sea making friends and perhaps even dancing with the honu we all love so much. Playtime is important for all of us.
