This painting began in a January yoga class. This year was said to be a numerological year of "11", a year of Mastery. As I closed my eyes to sit in meditation, I felt butterflies flying around my upper body.

Butterflies symbolize Mastery to me. They mean that the caterpillar stage has ended and a butterfly has emerged.

Days later when I sat down to actually paint this piece, I closed my eyes to draw the left arm (branch) of this tree. As I kept drawing, I was surprised to see her extend down to her roots - the first tree spirit to do so. Roots are an important foundational component to growth and sustainability.

The mystery remains. How will you use your year of mastery? How will you build upon the roots you've been sending down to stabilize your growth?
