The plumeria in this piece grew on a small tree we planted in our yard just two years ago. My husband, Keanu, plucked a few eight-inch twigs off a neighbor’s tree and stuck them in the ground. The blooms came before the leaves and we’ve enjoyed watching it grow ever since.

This spring I took a few photos of the flowers and used them as reference for this painting. The title refers to the fact that although the flowers bloom in rounded clusters, I have chosen to show them in an elongated shape.
