Lanikai Beach Nap
Lanikai Beach Nap
In June 2017, Kaimana Beach was blessed with the birth of an endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. Appropriately, her nickname is Kaimana.
Mana is the Hawaiian word for divine power or energy. Kai is the Hawaiian word for sea. Little Kaimana quickly developed a devoted following. It was fun to watch her grow and her curiosity get her into pilikia (trouble) when she found her way into the pool of the Korean War Memorial and couldn’t find her way back out. Search for Hawaiian Monk Seals on FB to learn more.
These gray seals have a sweet looking face, and always draw a cautious crowd wherever they surface.
Honu are also a much loved sea creature in the islands. We’re lucky to see them regularly. They no longer hide from view because of their endangered status.
This image is from my imagination, with the permission to use one of Kimo Smith’s photos as a guide. It takes place on Lanikai Beach a favorite beach on the windward side of `Oahu.
