Coconut Dawn
Coconut Dawn
At one time coconut palms were to be banned from Waikiki; it was felt they posed too great a danger to unsuspecting guests. Their heavy coconuts, while lovely to see and delicious to eat, are deadly missiles if they fall on anyone’s head. Happily, one canny developer spent a fortune having several hundred coconut palms planted overnight right before the ban was to take effect. Today regular crews keep the trees trimmed, cutting off the coconuts while they’re still seeds and saving all of our “noggins."
