Pineapple Fields Forever II
Pineapple Fields Forever II
The pineapple is a type of Bromeliad, a succulent plant in the tropics. From Spanish Moss (known here as Pele’s Hair) to the Pineapple, bromeliads come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Once grown in far greater numbers on the islands, the pineapples have long been a symbol of hospitality.
The pineapple fields on the North Shore of Oahu are an iconic representation of the history of the pineapples in Hawai`i. Once an export of the islands, the pineapples grown today are for use on the island and for visitors to take home.
It takes two years to grow a pineapple. At any given time you might drive past one field that’s fallow next to another with young plants, next to yet another with pineapples ready for harvest.
These fields, with the Waianae Mountains as a backdrop, hold a special place in the hearts of many who live here and those who visit. In this respect, these Pineapple Fields will live on in our hearts Forever.
