This painting began with thoughts of life as a balancing act. The outstretched foot was meant to be walking a tight rope.

I excitedly showed it to a local man who scratched his chin and told me he saw something else. He said he saw ”a very large Hawaiian woman, walking the Earth, if you know what I mean.”

This was shortly after the breakout flow had begun on Hawai`i island, threatening homes and business there. I knew exactly what he meant. I took what he saw seriously and transformed the painting to match his vision. With deep respect, here you see my version of Pele, Walking the Earth.
