The flowers portrayed in this image are Red Ginger. With over 700 varieties of ginger, this is the most well-known. A tropical herb, the uses of ginger range from dyes, to medicinal, to ornamental to the edible (ginger root and turmeric are derived from different species of ginger).

Back in the day, my Mom used to wake us up saying, almost singing “Good Morning, Sunshine!” These days I awaken before dawn; it’s my favorite part of the day.
